How to Find Your Film's Audience Using Ramiro AI
Before you think about trailers, social media, press releases, or distribution deals, there is one question you need to answer: Who is this film for?
Not in a vague, general sense. Specifically. Who are the people that will watch this film, talk about it, recommend it to friends, and pay to see it? These are your audience, and finding them is the single most important thing you can do before you start marketing.
In this tutorial, we walk you through exactly how to do that using Ramiro AI, with the "Rules of Living" project as our example.
Why Audience Identification Comes First
A lot of filmmakers skip this step or rush through it. They have a sense of who their film is for but never take the time to really define it. Then they launch a campaign and wonder why nothing is landing.
Your audience is not just a demographic. It's not simply women aged 40 to 65 or film festival goers. Your audience is defined by an emotional state, by what they're looking for, what questions they're sitting with, and what kind of storytelling speaks to them.
When you understand that, everything else — your messaging, your platforms, your partnerships, your distribution strategy — becomes much clearer.
Step 1: Open Your Project and Start a New Chat
From your dashboard, open your film project. In this tutorial, we're working inside the "Rules of Living" project. Create a new chat and name it Audience, following the chat organization system we covered in tutorial three.
Step 2: Use the Audience Prompts from the Templates Section
Head to the Templates section and open the 20 Prompts for Fast Results template. These prompts are specifically designed to get Ramiro AI generating useful, tailored output quickly. Start with the audience identification prompts and work through them one by one.
You don't need to write your own prompts from scratch. The templates do that work for you.
Step 3: Let Ramiro AI Build Your Audience Profile
Once you run the prompts, Ramiro AI gets to work. For "Rules of Living," the platform identified the primary audience as midlife women aged 40 to 65 across Japan, East Asia, and diaspora communities, as well as culturally curious women in Western countries.
But here's what makes this useful: Ramiro AI doesn't just give you demographics. It describes these women as outwardly successful but quietly questioning their own authenticity. That emotional framing is what makes the audience profile actionable. It tells you how to talk to them, not just who they are.
The secondary audience includes men in midlife and broader cultural communities connected to the themes of the film.
Step 4: Build a Detailed Persona
Once you have your primary audience defined, the next step is to bring them to life with a persona. We created one named Keiko.
A strong persona includes:
- Demographics — age, location, life stage
- Interests and hobbies — what she reads, watches, and engages with
- Lifestyle — how she spends her time
- Content consumption — where she gets her information and entertainment
- Platforms — where she is active online (for Keiko, Instagram and Letterboxd; not TikTok)
- Core emotional questions — what she's searching for that this film speaks to
This level of detail is what makes your marketing feel personal rather than generic. When you know Keiko, you know how to reach her.
Step 5: Identify Where Your Audience Lives
The final piece is finding where your audience actually spends their time, both online and offline. Ramiro AI helps you go beyond the obvious platforms and think about specific communities, events, festivals, and physical spaces where your audience is most likely to be.
For "Rules of Living," that means thinking beyond mainstream social media and looking at film communities, cultural events, and spaces where quality storytelling is already valued.
This audience is not looking to be bombarded with aggressive marketing. They respond to depth, authenticity, and recommendation. Your strategy needs to reflect that.
Your Audience, Your Strategy
Once you know who your audience is, what they care about, and where to find them, every other decision becomes easier. Your marketing strategy, your distribution plan, your PR approach — all of it flows from this foundation.
Don't skip this step. Don't rush it. Get it right first, and everything that follows will be more focused, more effective, and more efficient.
